She responded to both senators that she did not believe that Trump or Kennedy would ask her to make decisions that break the law or jeopardize public health. They reminded her that the previous CDC director, Susan Monarez, PhD, <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healio.com\/news\/infectious-disease\/20250828\/white-house-says-monarez-fired-as-cdc-director\" id=\"rId16\" target=\"_blank\">was fired<\/a> after just a month on the job after <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healio.com\/news\/infectious-disease\/20250905\/senators-spar-with-kennedy-over-vaccines-hhs-priorities\" id=\"rId17\" target=\"_blank\">refusing requests<\/a> made by Kennedy.<\/li>\n<li>Sanders asked Schwartz if she accepts the evidence that vaccines do not cause autism, and she replied that she did. He followed up asking if she would remove <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healio.com\/news\/pediatrics\/20251120\/cdc-webpage-no-longer-refutes-link-between-vaccines-autism\" id=\"rId18\" target=\"_blank\">language from the CDC website<\/a> suggesting that vaccines do cause autism. She asked Schwartz if there was a scientific or medical justification for the federal government <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healio.com\/news\/infectious-disease\/20250926\/qa-cdc-makes-major-cuts-to-foodborne-illness-surveillance\" id=\"rId20\" target=\"_blank\">eliminating mandatory reporting<\/a> of the parasite to FoodNet.
