Health officials in Michigan reported the deaths of two people who had cyclosporiasis \u2014 the first deaths linked to the ongoing outbreak of the diarrheal illness that has impacted at least nine states. The Michigan Department of Health & Human Services said Monday that the two people who died \u201chad significant underlying health conditions that may have been impacted by cyclosporiasis and dehydration.\u201d

The department did not release any other details of the patients. According to the CDC, there have been at least 1,947 cyclosporiasis cases and 98 hospitalizations in the outbreak since May 1. Federal health officials have traced the multistate outbreak to iceberg lettuce sourced by Taylor Farms in Mexico. The case count is likely higher.
