\n\tOlivia Munn<\/a> is answering fans\u2019 burning questions about her breast cancer journey<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 46-year-old actress just launched a new social media series (using Instagram\u2019s newest feature, \u201cSeries\u201d) to share the unfiltered details of her diagnosis and recovery. In her first video<\/a>, she captured the bittersweet feeling of finding support through illness: \u201cWelcome to the worst club with the best members.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\tHow a Routine Risk Assessment Saved Her Life\t<\/h2>\n

\n\tMunn announced her diagnosis in March 2024 via an Instagram post<\/a> after doctors found an aggressive, fast-moving form of cancer known as Luminal B. According to the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>, Luminal B breast cancer<\/a> affects 15\u201320% of all breast cancer cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tEven though her initial mammograms and genetic tests showed no signs of illness, her OB-GYN calculated her breast cancer risk assessment score<\/a> to evaluate her personal and family health history. Munn credited that decision with saving her life.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cShe discovered that my lifetime risk was 37%,\u201d Munn wrote. \u201cBecause of that score, I was sent to get an MRI, which led to an ultrasound, which led to a biopsy. The biopsy showed I had luminal B cancer in both breasts. Luminal B is an aggressive, fast-moving cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThirty days later, Munn had a double mastectomy to remove both breasts.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m lucky,\u201d she wrote. \u201cWe caught it with enough time that I had options. I want the same for any woman who might have to face this one day. Ask your doctor to calculate your breast cancer risk assessment score.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\tFinding Hope in the \u2018Sisterhood\u2019\t<\/h2>\n

\n\tIn those scary early days before going public, Munn said she felt lost. Seeing other women share their personal health battles<\/a> online gave her a reason to keep going.<\/p>\n

\n\tNow she wants to pass that same support forward. She joked that she waited to film her first video until she didn\u2019t look exhausted. She then talked about the amazing group of women she met during treatment.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe sisterhood I\u2019ve found of women who have battled\/are currently battling the same fight are the most incredible, generous, supportive people I\u2019ve ever met,\u201d she wrote in the caption.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tThe Road to Recovery\t<\/h2>\n

\n\tWhile Munn shared that she\u2019s currently doing \u201creally good,\u201d she was quick to admit that recovery isn\u2019t a straight line. Some days feel great, while others are still a real struggle.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMost people who are going through any type of cancer can tell you that every day is different,\u201d she explained in her video. \u201cAnd sometimes you feel like you\u2019re really on an upswing, and then there are other times when you\u2019re like, \u2018Oh my gosh, this is so difficult. How is this still so hard?’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA huge part of that struggle was dealing with the sudden onset of medically induced menopause<\/a>. Luminal B cancer depends on estrogen to grow, so Munn had a big decision to make: take heavy hormone-suppressing drugs for years or have her uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries surgically removed. She chose the full hysterectomy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cmedications are very difficult. It\u2019s the stuff we have to do after the big hurdles that are kind of like, there\u2019s big hurdles, and there\u2019s long hurdles, and I\u2019m in the long hurdle right now,\u201d she continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tOn top of managing her health, Munn is also balancing life as a working mom. She shares four-year-old Malcolm and nearly two-year-old M\u00e9i with her partner, John Mulaney, calling her kids \u201cthe best things in the whole world.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tKeeping up with two toddlers while recovering is a \u201cbalancing act,\u201d but she hopes talking through these messy, post-surgery details helps other families feel less alone.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
