\n\tMichael J. Fox<\/a> is reflecting on his 35-year journey with Parkinson\u2019s disease<\/a> after receiving major recognition for his advocacy work.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 65-year-old actor was named a recipient of the prestigious Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award<\/a> (often referred to as \u201cAmerica\u2019s Nobels\u201d) for his tireless efforts in funding medical research. Since launching the Michael J. Fox Foundation<\/a> in 2000, his organization has raised over $3 billion to find a cure for the neurodegenerative condition.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen we launched the Foundation, our goal was simple, yet ambitious \u2014 cure Parkinson\u2019s,\u201d Fox said in a statement<\/a> following the announcement. \u201cI am humbled to be recognized by the Lasker Foundation and jury. \n\tThe Back to the Future<\/em> star first began experiencing Parkinson\u2019s symptoms in 1990 at age 29, eventually making his diagnosis public years later to help eliminate the stigma around the disease.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe credited his ongoing advocacy to the support of his wife, Tracy Pollan<\/a>, and their four children, who have stood by him through decades of health challenges.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile he admitted that managing his symptoms has naturally become more difficult over time, he hasn\u2019t let it affect his mission.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOf course, things have gotten harder over the years,\u201d Fox shared in an exclusive interview with People<\/em><\/a>. But \u201cI\u2019m privileged to commit my time and energy to bringing everything I\u2019ve got to help cure this disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFox recently returned to acting<\/a> with a guest-starring role on the Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe stepped back from full-time acting in 2020 when memorizing dialogue became difficult, but the relaxed schedule on Shrinking<\/em> offered a welcome return to the screen. Playing a character who also lives with Parkinson\u2019s gave him the chance to perform authentically while sharing scenes with Harrison Ford.<\/p>\n

\n\tHis foundation is now launching a new campaign aiming to raise an additional $2.5 billion for research. \u201cScience is hard\u2026 But as long as we stay focused, we stay hopeful, we\u2019ll get there,\u201d Fox told People<\/em>. \u201cAnd the science is showing we\u2019re getting close.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
