\n\tFor years, Debby Ryan has dealt with severe migraines \u2014 but a \u201clife-altering\u201d brain injury made things much worse.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a recent appearance on Mythical Kitchen\u2019s Last Meals<\/em><\/a>, the 33-year-old revealed that after sustaining four separate concussions throughout her life, her fifth was the result of a terrifying trauma involving \u201csustained shaking over a minute of time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe incident left her in a neurological rehab center for six months. To help get her brain \u201cback online,\u201d she underwent what she described as a \u201cfringe science treatment,\u201d but ultimately had to accept that certain cognitive abilities \u201cjust did not come back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEven before that fifth concussion forced her into a half-year recovery period, Ryan dealt with severe chronic head pain<\/a>. She described herself as a long-time \u201cmigraine warrior,\u201d explaining that the final injury severely amplified those symptoms and made them truly \u201chellish.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cQuite often, the world is really loud and too bright,\u201d she continued. \u201cI can see better and think better with my eyes closed. The visual data I am taking in can be so distracting and so loud. The migraines<\/a> were significantly worsened by that. If there is a thing that can make things really singular, I like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\tRebuilding Her Life\t<\/h2>\n

\n\tComing to terms with those lasting symptoms wasn\u2019t easy. Ryan said she now refers to herself as \u201cpre-incident Debby and post-incident Debby.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe former Disney Channel<\/a> star \u2014 who built a fanbase on The Suite Life on Deck<\/em> and Jessie<\/em> before starring in Netflix\u2019s Insatiable<\/em> and the 2026 drama The Sun Never Sets<\/em> \u2014 had to learn how to navigate work and life while managing her ongoing recovery.<\/p>\n

\n\tThrough the hardest moments of rehabilitation, she relied on her inner circle, including her husband, Josh Dun, and their 8-month-old daughter, Felix. She acknowledged how difficult the process must have been for Dun, admitting she couldn\u2019t imagine what it was like to see someone who looked and sounded like his wife but whose behavior was suddenly completely different.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI feel really fortunate that I have an amazing team of people around me who sort of reminded me who I am and was, and also held a lot of space for that to change, potentially permanently, and love me through that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
