This week, Sullenberger and his wife of 37 years, Lorrie, sat down with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uDQ5-6vVWsc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><em>Good Morning America<\/em><\/a> this week to discuss their new reality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAfter initially planning to keep his August 2025 diagnosis a secret, the couple decided to share their experience publicly so others going through the same thing wouldn\u2019t feel isolated. \u201cInitially, like a lot of families, we were not going to tell,\u201d Lorrie told <em>Good Morning America<\/em> co-anchor Robin Roberts. \u201cAnd I said to Sully one day, \u2018This is a disease, not a character flaw. Just forgetting things that I normally wouldn\u2019t. Or repeating myself, not realizing that I just said that an hour ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLorrie explained that most people expect to see severe memory loss when they think of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sheknows.com\/health-and-wellness\/slideshow\/3048059\/celebrities-with-dementia\/\">dementia<\/a>, making these small behavioral shifts easy to overlook. \u201cThey were so little that it was easy to dismiss in the beginning,\u201d she said.
