\n\tOn a recent episode of The Squeeze<\/em><\/a> podcast, the 43-year-old mental health<\/a> advocate spoke about Robin Williams<\/a>\u2019 final months<\/a> and how difficult it was to watch him struggle.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was really feeling for him because he was having a frustrating time and was seeking support,\u201d Zak said. \u201cThat was hard for me because I don\u2019t think he was far off from finding something that would have felt like it was more helpful for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRobin was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease<\/a> before his death in August 2014 at age 63. An autopsy later revealed that he also had Lewy body dementia<\/a> \u2014 a condition he hadn\u2019t known he was living with.<\/p>\n

\n\tZak has previously discussed how confusing his father\u2019s symptoms were for the family. \u201cWhat he was going through didn\u2019t match one-to-one [with what] many Parkinson\u2019s patients experience,\u201d he said on The Genius Life<\/em><\/a> <\/em>podcast in 2021. \u201cSo, I think that was hard for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLewy body dementia can affect thinking, movement, sleep, behavior, and mood, according to the National Institute on Aging<\/a>. It can be difficult to diagnose because symptoms overlap with other conditions, including Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n

\n\tMemory loss isn\u2019t always an early symptom; anxiety, sleep problems, or changes in movement may appear first. That can make it difficult to recognize, even when someone is already seeking medical care. There\u2019s currently no cure, but treatments can help manage some symptoms.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe main thing for me is just I loved him so much and you know I couldn\u2019t have told him enough,\u201d he said. \u201cFor someone who was such a loving human being and just giving his heart to the world, I had hopes that he would have found some peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
