\n\tKatie Thurston<\/a> has a surprising discovery to share, and yes, it involves her breast implants.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe former Bachelorette<\/em><\/a> posted an Instagram video<\/a> on Oct. 23 showing what happens when she shines a flashlight against her breast: It appears to glow. Naturally, she had a seasonal caption ready.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJust your human jack-o\u2019-lantern,\u201d she wrote, \u201cchecking in after a #doublemastectomy.\u201d Thurston had the surgery in April as part of her treatment for stage 4 breast cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tWhy Are Her Implants Glowing?\t<\/h2>\n

\n\tAs a plastic surgeon explained to People<\/em><\/a>, light can pass through the saline or silicone inside breast implants. That\u2019s why Thurston\u2019s breast appeared to glow when she held a flashlight against it \u2014 and why she\u2019s calling herself a \u201chuman jack-o\u2019-lantern.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJokes aside, Thurston knew the video would get people\u2019s attention and had something she wanted them to hear.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s #breastcancerawareness month, so I thought I\u2019d grab your attention,\u201d she wrote. \u201cDon\u2019t wait until you\u2019re 40 to start paying attention to your boobs. How do they look? How do they feel? Any changes should be discussed with your medical team.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThurston has been sharing her experience since receiving her breast cancer<\/a> diagnosis in February 2025.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt the Breast Cancer Research Foundation\u2019s Symposium & Awards Luncheon<\/a> earlier this month, she recalled how quickly her plans with her now-husband, Jeff Arcuri, changed.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAt a time we thought we\u2019d be planning our wedding, trying on wedding dresses \u2014 instead I had to decide where I\u2019d be for my care,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring her speech<\/a>, Thurston also announced that she currently has \u201cno evidence of disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen I was first diagnosed as stage four, I thought it was going to be the end of my life. I had no idea what kind of options I was going to have, or how long I was going to live,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m in this room today because of research.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
