Fellows will learn about new developments and advanced strategies in inflammatory bowel discase care. The 10th annual IBD NOW Summit for Fellows will be held virtually on Saturday, Nov. 7, and feature interactive sessions and case presentations aimed at deepening insight into inflammatory bowel disease management. The free CME event will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Eastern time.
\u201cThe talks range from more straightforward management to nuances of IBD care that will appeal to all years of trainees,\u201d Corey A. Siegel, MD, MS, Constantine and Joyce Hampers Professor of Medicine at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and director of the Walter and Carole Young Center for Digestive Health, told Healio. Siegel will serve as the course\u2019s cochair alongside David T. Rubin, MD, director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at University of Chicago Medicine, and oversee program development and implementation. Hosted by Vindico Medical Education, the event will offer an overview of current and emerging treatments in IBD care, including therapies for perianal disease and subcutaneous induction of medications, Siegel said. Fellows also will learn about drug development and changes to the third installation of Selecting Therapeutic Targets in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (STRIDE-III) initiative. According to the meeting website, attendees will engage in real-world case discussions to inform decision-making strategies and optimize outcomes for patients with IBD. Siegel noted that second- and third-year gastroenterology fellows can expand their current knowledge base by learning from faculty members\u2019 personal experiences with IBD management. \u201cThe more experienced fellows will get the most out of the faculty discussions around management,\u201d he said. \u201cAs training progresses, fellows learn more about the art of management, and hearing experts talk about how the data are applied to patients is where the pearls of learning come out.\u201d Learning will continue for all attendees beyond the meeting\u2019s conclusion, Siegel added. \u201cWhile evidence-based medicine should drive our decisions, it is our experience implementing these changes in our practice that hones our skills,\u201d he said. The virtual meeting also will encourage professional development, \u201cwith an opportunity to lead to collaboration and long-standing connections,\u201d Siegel said.
