Whitney Port is facing another frustrating delay in her journey to have a second child.

After years of struggling to grow her family, the 41-year-old recently decided she wants to carry her next baby herself. However, before doctors can move forward with transferring one of her two remaining embryos, Port has to deal with a lingering medical issue.

Pressing Pause for Surgery

On a recent episode of the With Whit podcast, Port shared that she needs surgery to repair a hernia that she’s “had for a while.” She wants to get it taken care of now so it doesn’t cause complications later.

“Before I do the transfer, I have to have this surgery to repair this hernia,” she told her listeners. “My main focus right now is being as healthy as I possibly can be,” she said, adding that her priority is to make sure her body is “just super calm and chill.”

“I don’t know how to exactly get there, but that’s what I know is my focus right now,” she said. “Like feeding my body, getting enough sleep, not smoking weed, and keeping my mind right.”

Moving Away From Surrogacy

This surgery is just the latest hurdle for Port and her husband, Tim Rosenman.

“After I had Sonny, who I got pregnant with so easily, I had five miscarriages,” she said. “The emotional and physical torture that I went through from those miscarriages was just too much for me to try to carry myself again.”

Those miscarriages led them to try surrogacy, but that path brought its own grief after three transfers failed. Last month, Port shared that after spending so much time and money navigating the surrogacy process, they decided to change direction.

“I’m deciding to do these transfers as soon as I can get this hernia removed,” she said. “I’m really proud of myself for how far I’ve come … the fact that I’m just like ready to do it,” she continued. “I wish that I didn’t have to deal with this annoying hernia surgery in order to do it. But the amazing thing is that fear doesn’t get to decide if I try. I’ve decided, and I feel good.”

Managing Family Stressors

On top of her fertility struggles, Port has been dealing with her mom Vicki’s cognitive decline. As a part of the “sandwich generation,” she spends her days raising her 9-year-old while trying to figure out the right daily care for her mom.

It’s a lot for one person to carry at once. Port recently spoke about giving herself permission to cry and release that emotional tension when things feel heavy.

Right now, taking care of her own physical health by getting this surgery is the next step in doing what she needs to do for herself and her family.
