Jelly Roll (Jason DeFord) isn’t letting anyone rewrite the history of his health journey.

On a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the country star responded to Fox News host Jesse Watters, who teased that Jelly Roll’s recent jokes about Donald Trump were a side effect of taking Ozempic.

Watters aired a segment targeting the musician’s recent comedic criticisms of the president, jokingly accusing him of having “Trump Derangement Syndrome” — an insult conservatives use to describe what a recently proposed congressional bill defined as a “phenomenon marked by extreme negative reactions to President Donald J. Trump.”

“Next up to bat, Jelly Roll,” Watters said. “They should put a warning label on Ozempic. Side effects can include increased risk of TDS. If you notice signs like irritability, depression, and trouble sleeping, please see a doctor.”

Setting the Record Straight

If you’re a fan of Jelly Roll, then you know he has a checkered past, and he’s not afraid to talk about it. His lyrics are raw and honest, and they resonate with thousands of his fans.

So, it wasn’t too surprising when he responded to Watters with humor and genuine pride in his own hard work.

“Okay, first of all, Jesse, I’ll have you know Ozempic is the only drug I haven’t tried. I know it sounds unbelievable, but I lost weight the old-fashioned way: cocaine,” he said. “No, seriously, I got in shape before the GLP-1 craze started. And I’m kind of proud of the fact that I did it through diet and exercise.”

He added, “But I also kinda feel like a dude who bought the last horse and buggy the day before they started selling cars.”

A Long-Term Health Journey

While Jelly Roll’s monologue made light of the rumors, his 275-pound transformation (dropping from 540 pounds to 265) involved a comprehensive medical and lifestyle overhaul. As reported by Men’s Health, he did briefly try a weight-loss medication for two weeks early in his journey but quickly stopped after fearing side effects like acid reflux could damage his vocal cords.

Instead, he worked with a medical team at Ways2Well to treat underlying blood marker issues — using Metformin for insulin resistance, testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for severe hormone deficits, and daily training alongside his chef and nutritionist, Ian Larios.

“There’s this magical thing that happens when you start exercising,” he told Men’s Health. “And you get through the absolute misery of the beginning of it. This thing happens in the middle of your workouts where it just sucks, and all of a sudden, it opens up, and you feel incredible.”

“I’m loving my body…I’ve worked really hard and lost the weight the right way,” Jelly Roll added. “Just a dramatically different world.”
