Teddi Mellencamp is reflecting on the past and looking toward the future as she faces the next phase of her cancer treatment plan.
The 45-year-old former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star recently posted a throwback video of herself exercising to her Instagram Stories, joking about how eager she is to get back to her old self and make “cringe” workout content again.
“Pre-brain tumor Teddi took herself very seriously on the gram,” she wrote in a text overlay. “9 more months of treatment. Let’s hope I’ll be back to being cringe in my workout posts soon bc I know y’all miss them.”
A Long Medical Road
Doctors initially diagnosed Mellencamp with stage 2 melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, in 2022. After she went through 17 different surgeries to treat it, she told fans in April 2025 that the disease had spread to her brain and lungs.
“It’s been 76 days since I went to the ER with unbearable headaches and quickly found out I had multiple stage 4 tumors ‘the size of plums’ in my brain and lungs,” she wrote in an April 28, 2025, Instagram post. “Melanoma had metastasized there and been there for ‘6 months to a year,’ and we had no clue.”
She had brain surgery to remove the tumors and has been on a strict immunotherapy regimen ever since.
For context, the American Cancer Society classifies melanoma as stage 4 once it spreads past the skin to distant organs like the lungs or central nervous system. Due to the aggressive nature of the disease at this stage, doctors rely on treatments like immunotherapy to train the patient’s own immune system to recognize and attack the cancer cells.
Keeping It Real About Cancer
Mellencamp consistently gives her followers an unfiltered look at both the good and bad days.
Last week, she documented a recent immunotherapy appointment via Instagram Stories, describing the session as her “least favorite day of the month” while expressing gratitude for having the comforts she needs to endure it.
She also refuses to pretend everything is fine when the fear creeps in. Earlier this summer, Mellencamp opened up about the intense anxiety that hit her when doctors extended the wait time between her regular medical scans.
“I just keep crying … no warning, just tears,” she told her followers at the time. “I just want to be positive. I wanna be like those people that say they’re positive all the time, but I’m really scared.”
But if her recent throwback post is any indication, she’s holding onto her sense of humor. She has nine months of treatment left on the calendar, and she’s counting down the days until she can just make silly workout videos on the internet again.
